Recovery is rarely a straight line, and this week reminded me of that in a big way. I set out with high hopes to dive into the carnivore diet, hoping to break unhealthy habits and take control of my health. But, as life would have it, habits are hard to break. Tonight, I caved and had lasagna for dinner—a delicious disaster for my health plan. It tasted amazing, but it’s exactly the type of habit I need to break.

That’s why I’m starting this blog. Not just to chronicle the wins, but to hold myself accountable when things don’t go as planned. I know recovery is a slow process, and sometimes I take one step forward and two steps back. It’s frustrating—but it’s also normal. Recovery is rarely linear, and I’m learning to accept that.

Overall, this week was a pretty good one, despite those setbacks. The past few weeks had been tougher, and the progress felt glacial. But this week, I could feel a few brighter moments. My physical therapy is paying off more than I expected. I might take two steps back, but I also take one forward—like when I managed to take out the trash without gasping for breath. That might seem minor to someone else, but for me, it was a huge win after last month, when I was leaning on the can, barely able to stand. That progress—slow as it is—keeps me going.

Next up are more medical steps. I’ve got follow-ups, an EKG, a heart catheterization, and more lab work coming up. Thankfully, my dad’s visiting, which is a lifeline. Just having a ride, being dropped off at the door—it’s a huge help when just walking into a parking lot feels like a marathon.

I also know that weight loss is still my biggest challenge. I’ve slipped into old patterns of junk food, and now I’m ready to take this carnivore journey seriously. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up for myself daily. Slowly but surely, I’ll get there.

If you’re reading this and going through something similar, I’d love to connect. This blog is my accountability partner, but it can be yours too. We’re in this together—slowly but surely, we can turn things around.
